Welcome to our Cherish Bridal Blog..
Here we will keep you up to date with all of our latest news, forthcoming products, weddings, and things to look our for..
Many of our brides come into the boutique not knowing their own body shape hence not understanding what sort of wedding gown will look good on them .
Brides will come in with an idea of what styles they like but most have no idea where to begin .
We always recommend coming to your appointment with an open mind as until you begin trying on styles ,shapes and colours its difficult to know what will suit your shape and what you will feel comfortable in as you will be wearing your gown for a long time .
We all have parts of out bodies we dislike, but instead of hiding those bits try to accentuate the bits you do love ! All bodies are beautiful so work with your shape rather than against it to find a gown that will help you feel confident and stunning .
Think carefully about your body shape if you know what that is – if not then take the advice of your consultant who will have had years of experience dressing brides and will help you to find your perfect gown .
Balanced bust and hips with a defined waistline .
Hips are wider than your shoulders ,defined waist, proportionately slim arms/shoulders .
Wider at the top of the body, wide back, narrow hips and subtle waist.
Voluptuous,full busted,a tummy a round bottom/hips.
Straight up and down,undefined waist.
5FT and under,with a delicate frame.
Over 5ft 8 , can carry off most gown styles.
The following gown styles will help you choose what will enhance your body shape when looking for your dress.
This style is classic, simple and suits every bride whatever your size ,named after the look it visually creates from the fitted bodice and flared skirt on each side of your hips to flow over any parts of your lower body you may feel you want to hide .
An A-line dress can be short or full length and flow into a large train, made from lots of differing fabrics from super stylish satin ,organzas, tulle or heavyweight mikado.
The princess cut version of an A- line gown is more dramatic and utilizes vertical panels that run from the neckline to hem . This creates a slimming effect as it draws the eye along the length of the dress. The full skirt of an a-line gown can hide a rounder lower body or create curves on a narrow frame.
This is the style of dress that dreams are made of. With a fitted bodice and full skirt that can either be one piece or separate, this dress is perfect for big, fairytale weddings. You can even pair a princess gown with an amazing full length veil to add extra drama! Everything from satin to chiffon, lace overlays and beading is used on top, along with layers of taffeta, organza or tulle on the bottom to create a floating effect.
The ball gown or princess wedding dress is classic and timeless. They’re flattering on all body types as they show off the bust, arms and shoulders while concealing the waist and hips. However, if you’re petite, you might find yourself getting lost in all the fabric!
While many brides will look beautiful in a princess gown, the cut is ideal for slimmer or pear-shaped figures as the full skirt helps to accentuate the waist and hide the lower body. Additionally, this style helps create the hourglass look because it shows of the the waistline. If you’re shorter, beware that a skirt of this size though as it can overpower a small frame. You need to be wearing the dress ,not the other way around!
Fishtail, Mermaid & Trumpet
These styles cause the most confusion with brides. All three of these shapes can be similar depending on the style and fabrics which is why we should talk about them all together to explain how they differ.
The terms ‘mermaid’, ‘fishtail’ and ‘trumpet’ are often used for similar wedding dress shapes that hug the body before delicately flaring out below the hips. It’s a dream shape for curvy brides and anyone who wants to create an hourglass silhouette.
Mermaid and trumpet wedding dresses hug the bust, waist and hips and are a sexy choice to show off the feminine figure of the hourglass body shape! While a trumpet shape flares out from the mid-thigh to the ground, the mermaid style fits to the knee, providing even more definition
If you’re curvy with an hourglass shape then this style of skirt can be amazing if you’ve got the confidence to carry it off. It’s a bit of a bold look – the top can be strapless or high necked and the bottom half accentuates your bottom, thighs and hips, fitting snugly into your curves. It’s important you can walk and sit down in this style so ensure you have a go at doing this when trying on !
The mermaid (or trumpet) is a sophisticated look for brides who crave a little drama. The skirt’s trademark flare can be narrow or wide, sleek or ruffled—and each gives your dress a different twist. Brides with curves love mermaid gowns, but this silhouette maximizes the va-va-voom effect on straighter figures, too.
Trumpet shapes are a good midway point between a fit and flare fishtail and a mermaid dress. The skirt gradually flares around mid-thigh and can resemble the shape of a trumpet’s bell – hence the name. The skirt is good for highlighting curves without drawing too much attention to your legs. It also isn’t as dramatic or restrictive as a mermaid. It’s a great style for hourglass and petite figures with small waists. It can accentuate the stomach and hips so pears and apples should wear this style with a sparkly or coloured belt to break up the waist area.
Falling directly from the bust line into loose folds, this shape suits shorter brides who are smaller ‘up top’. If you’re a bit pear-shaped, it’s perfect for you, because it will accentuate your small upper frame while hiding less-than-perfect hips and legs. Empire wedding dresses feature a high waist that hugs your upper torso with a straight, soft and flowing skirt for a simple, stylish and classic bridal look. Empire wedding dresses compliment the slim figure of a straight or athletic body type and can also sit beautifully over wider hips making it a flattering choice for the pear or hourglass shaped bride.
After you’ve found what types of dresses best suit your body, it’s time for the fun part, TRYING ON! Take your time to try on lots of different dresses (even of the same type) as slight differences in shape and fabric can make a big difference to how they fit.
Ultimately, choose the dress that makes YOU feel absolutely fabulous! Work with what you’ve got and wear it with confidence! It’s your wedding day so you choose what you love .
TO BOOK AN APPOINTMENT TO TRY ON PLEASE GO TO OUR BOOK NOW TAB 🙂
Like other bridal boutiques and after doing research, we have been thinking for a long while and mulling over starting to charge for appointments as we have always offered them free before.
So, (after much deliberation) we have decided to keep the first consultation free of charge and the second return visit also free ( if required by our brides) ,but any subsequent visits will be charged a fee of £35 .
Why charge? Simply because bridal boutiques do not operate like other shops. It’s not the same as breezing in and out of any other high street shop. During your appointment, you have our personal attention at all times, our years of experience and knowledge , the boutique to yourself and refreshments for you & your party if required.
Now, imagine it’s a busy Saturday, with several brides booked in. We excitedly turn up to work to help our customers and what happens? No shows.
Sadly, as much as we’d like to believe that people would phone ahead to cancel an appointment or let us know they no longer need it, many don’t.(we really appreciate those who do i may add) .I’ve lost count of the number of times I would arrive to work, sit around for half an hour waiting for a bride, just for them not to turn up.
Not only is this really annoying, crucially it means our business has just made a loss. Shop rents and staff need paying regardless of whether customers turn up or not. This means, a whole 60 or 90 minutes where we can’t see brides who DO want to come and see us has been wasted. Commercially, it’s just not viable for us to have hours and hours wasted where our boutique is empty due to no-shows.
Charging for 3rd and subsequent appointments wasn’t a route we wanted to go down but does mean we can ensure our time is paid for. We don’t feel that it’s an unreasonable request – that for those 30+ minutes of undivided attention on top of the time already spent at the first 2 appointments, assistance and advice, that brides pay a deposit. The £35 paid is then redeemable against any dress purchased, meaning the appointment fee is taken off the total cost.
We hope our lovely customers agree that this is money well spent. We proudly stock beautiful designer dresses that we believe are what our brides are looking for. We will ALWAYS provide the highest quality of customer service and give our brides our all.
We know our brides our worth it.
And we think we’re worth it too.
As Independant Bridal Retailers ,here at cherish bridal we are increasingly seeing more and hearing about more brides who are having wobbles about their choice of gown and if it truly is ‘the one’ !
In our experience 99.9% of the time the bride has chosen ‘the one’ and there are no doubts .
The other 0.01% are what we call the ‘what if ‘ brides who have a wobble and don’t want to stop trying on or looking ‘just in case’.
We seem to be hearing about and experiencing first hand the ‘what if bride’ more and more lately , hence the reason for this blog!
So here is our take on the subject…………
PUT ON YOUR BLINKERS…
- Now that you’ve found your dream gown, STOP LOOKING AND SHOPPING !! — it will only make you nuts if you keep looking at dresses that you may like even more. Yours is great! Now just look forward to showing everyone on the big day.
Take a break from social media.
2. The internet can be a great place to find dress inspiration, but it can also drive you absolutely crazy!. You may find a dress that you adore, but looking at Instagram or Pinterest might make you fall in love with a completely different gown (that may not even be in your price range) and doubt your initial choice. It may be a good idea to take a little social media cleanse while dress shopping so you can stop comparing yourself to others. Focus on what looks amazing on you, not what looks cool on the internet.
3. When you’re thinking you’ve chosen the wrong wedding dress, chances are that you’re overthinking it – one of those things that happens (temporarily, don’t worry!). It’s totally normal for brides to begin to question their dream dress, but when it gets to the big day, those magical feelings you had when you first put it on come flooding back! Trust us on this one!.
4. Ask your bridal consultant’s advice if you are having wobbles about your dress! Chances are they will be able to arrange another try on of the gown and settle your mind that you have made the right choice for your special day and there’s nothing to worry about ! Have confidence in yourself and trust your consultant that you have chosen the right dress , you will look stunning on your wedding day!
DON’T TAKE PHOTOS….
5. Don’t look at photos of yourself in the dresses you tried on ,or the one your chose (some shops won’t allow pics )….Its not ‘your’ actual dress .It might have been pinned or held around you or sponges down your back – and we all have a habit of picking at our body shapes or features on photos and ripping ourselves to shreds – Its important to REMEMBER HOW YOU FELT when you looked in the mirror when wearing your dress ! Its what made you go for it isn’t it ?
6. Its about what YOU love and no-one else ! Showing photos to people of what you chose will also add unnecessary stress as it might not be what they envisioned you to wear….BECAUSE THEIR TASTE IS DIFFERENT TO YOURS ! You can’t please everyone – so make sure you choose what YOU love !!
Happy dress hunting !
